Great for all things outdoors.
Friendly staff typically knowledgeable or able to bring in someone w expertise in what you are looking for. Though last time, I was seeking help within the kids clothing section and two employees within that section didn't know about any of it.
$10 to park is too much. I just needed to exchange a shirt for a different size. I had ordered online for my son and I had guessed wrong. REI is great and all, but ten bucks for a half hour is wrong.
This REI has stood the test of time. There's always construction around but now there's a new bike path for better accessibility. Staff are amazing. They host events with 401 Park throughout the year. Love this store!
Really love REI in general. And I’m happy one is here in Fenway.
My critiques: store selection is minimal. I often guess sizes online (due to lack of in store inventory) and then sometimes need to return or exchange.
Also workers are hit or miss. Some are friendly and wonderful. Some really help you. However definitely not all.
I had one make a comment/joke about me stealing which was ridiculous. I was standing with my credit card ready to pay and he said he didn’t care if I was stealing the product and chuckled. What??
Some workers give you attitude during a return meanwhile when you are purchasing they claim “have no fear you can return if it doesn’t work”.
I’ll keep coming because I love REI in general but I wish there was another option for in store shopping nearby.
Edit: 1 star --> 3 star. The general customer service hotline was able to fix the problem with my order the next day. They had to call on my behalf to the store. The lady on the general service hotline is much more helpful and attending to customer compared to the store staff.
Poor logistics and inventory system created terrible customer shopping experiences. In addition, the store's sales staff was unhelpful. Marketing strategies feel deceptive, coupled with a lack of competitive pricing for their products.

REI prices are a bit on the premium side, about 20- 30 % more than comparable shops / items.
Secondly, for this specific location: When parking, signage is non-existent AND it will cost you $10 for the first hour *with validation*. ( $14 first hour w/o )
I am on the fence when it comes to pay for shopping in a store 😑
Lastly, they went bagless. I don't mind you charging me $.50 for a paper bag, but it did not help that I had to carry 5 items "as is"
As much as I like(d) REI, I don't think I will shop there anymore.
I needed a cargo box for my roadtrip and this REI site had the one I was looking for in stock. When it was time to pick it up they had me pull my car in front of the store since I was parked in the garage. To my surprise, they had my cargo box ready to go and set up for installation. The two young lady were very kind and assisted me when installing it to my car. One of the them was very knowledgeable and understood the product in depth. She gave me helpful tip on how to properly securing my box and all the dues and don’t. I would also add to the fact, all of this took place while it was raining outside. Great customer service no doubt.
Visited on a rainy Saturday. Three groups of customers and I all waiting around the shoes area for more than 10 minutes. Only one employee of the roughly 5 around was helping anyone.
I overheard one of the employees not helping anyone say "I soooo don't want to be here right now." After 5-10 minutes I went and asked one of them to help. They did get me the shoes I asked for in the size I asked for then didn't come back.
I made a note of the things I needed and bought them online direct from the manufacturers once I got home.
Maybe the employees should be working on commission here, because they don't seem to work at all right now.
